About the Scotlandville CDC

Scotlandville CDC was formed in 1994 as a non-profit, charitable organization by a small group of neighborhood stakeholders, who were committed to revitalizing the Scotlandville area.

Our mission is to be a catalyst for change, which revitalizes the community through affordable housing, economic investments and social developments. SCDC maximizes resources and neighborhood participation to produce an economically sound community. SCDC is dedicated to helping low-to-moderate-income families and providing housing development and training for homebuyers.

The SCDC has become a change agent in North Baton Rouge, and today can boast of many accomplishments, including the sale of over 34 single-family homes , leveraging investments in the community totaling more than $5.6 million dollars from private and public funding, and the near completion of a new 58-unit, single-family housing subdivision, Scotlandville Homes, on Goudchaux Avenue in the Banks community, totaling $7.8 million in investments.

Within SCDC’s boundaries, we house small neighborhood restaurants to major restaurant chains, two major banks, a major hotel chain, a neighborhood clinic, senior housing community, EBRP branch library and more than 50 churches, as well as other businesses which have decided to locate in our community. We have four elementary schools, three middle schools, one high school and one Lab school. We also have the largest minority institution in the nation, Southern University and A&M College, with nearly 20,000 students on three campuses.

We invite the community to contribute to SCDC’s efforts to enhance the beauty and marketability of the Scotlandville community to prospective homebuyers and businesses. SCDC introduced the School/Neighborhood and Park Initiative (SNAP)-started in Houston, at Banks Elementary School to help public schools develop school playgrounds into neighborhood parks and outdoor classrooms.

We are always working on efforts to keep residents and supporters of Scotlandville abreast of the developments, events and activities taking place within the community.
